Neon Signs For Advertising Your Business

Posted by admin 28 September, 2007 (0) Comment

Neon signs are great advertising for any business. They work well for retail settings such as game rooms, restaurants, diners, manufacturing units, pubs and lounges, fraternity lounges, and many other establishments. The concept of light in tubes was first concieved in the late 17th century by French astronomer Jean Picard when he noticed a glow in a barometer mercury tube. The concept of static electricity was not then understood, but the idea remained alive and was studied by scientists and inventors in the followings years and centuries. In 1855, a German glassblower named Heinrich Geissler, had created a light called the Geissler tube. The first man to apply an electrical charge to neon gas in a tube was a French inventor, chemist, and engineer named Georges Claude. Claude introduced the Neon lamp to the French people in Paris on December 11, 1910. He took his product to America many years later in 1923, where he sold a set of two neon signs to the Packard car dealership baring their name for $24,000. These “liquid fire” tubes glowed in the night as well as broad daylight and soon became popular.

Since then, the neon technology has evolved tenfold, and the signs are more popular than ever today. Not all signs are made of neon, since the neon gas only produces the color red. After the initial discovery of neon-emitting red light, other colors were discovered using mercury, carbon dioxide, and phosphor. Today, it is possible to produce more than 150 colors using these gases. Neon tubes are actually positive-charge-filled lamps. Every neon sign made is handcrafted; despite the advancement in technology, the manufacturing of a sign just cannot be done by a machine. According to the design wanted, the artisan heats a glass tube into a pliable shape and then moulds the design and lettering as per the requirements. During this process of continuous heating and bending, air is let into the tube to maintain its hollow shape. After the designing is done, the tubes are vacuumed out using a suction pump, after which an inert gas is let into the tube—this gas determines the color of the neon sign. The gas-filled tube glows when current is passed through it ionizing the gas, thus causing it to glow.

Neon gas tubes do not contain any filament like an ordinary light bulb, so their life spans are very long, ranging from ten to fifteen years. Companies continue to improve their manufacturing techniques and designs of the neon sign and it’s popularity continues to grow. As they get more and more popular, you’re likely to see all kinds of neon signs for all kinds of different things like; neon beer signs, open signs for stores, or even neon signs advertising your favorite sports team! How cool would it be to have a Dallas Cowboys Neon sign?

History of Cedar Wood in Manufacturing

Posted by admin 27 September, 2007 (0) Comment

Cedar has long been used in manufacturing of many items due to its various properties that make it good for construction. Cedar patio furniture is just one of many uses for cedar that has become so popular to the public, mostly because it is highly resistant to weather and abundantly found in the United States. Aside from outdoor furniture, what has cedar been used for in the past?

Cedar is a fairly common wood that has long been manufactured for a number of outdoor products. It is a hard wood that produces its own oils, making it quite weather resistant even if not treated with other substances (varnish or other oils). This means you can have unfinished cedar furniture and not worry as much about damage from the elements. However, when this was discovered, it was more important to manufacturers for use in making roof tiles and shingles, which were durable and wouldn’t crack or swell.

Another property of cedar log furniture that makes it highly popular is the aromatic perfume that is secreted by the oils in the wood, a scent not available from any other wood furniture. This aroma is pleasant to the senses but also functional in that it repels insects, especially moths. For this reason, the wood was used for building closets, hope chests, and storage bins in which clothes and other textiles were kept to ward off hungry bugs. As a bonus, the smell would permeate the clothing.

In recent years, there has been an increase in the desire for cedar outdoor furniture, and the demand has created a market for the wood across the country. Fortunately, there is no shortage of supply of this type of tree, since it can grow in most climates, even withstanding temperatures as low as -40 degrees. The abundance of raw material and the ease with which it can be worked into usable merchandise makes it one of the least expensive high-end wood products to use for garden furniture.

Cedar has also been used for indoor furniture, especially such items as wooden rocking chairs. While decorating an entire home or room with the wood could become overbearing in terms of the fragrance, individual pieces like this are common. Because of their durability, these chairs will become future antiques, and the cedar will last to be used as a family heirloom.

Currently, though, outdoor cedar furniture is the most popular use for the product, and as more and more people build decks or create gardens for themselves to enjoy, this will become an extremely common usage. Other types of log furniture are no longer satisfactory. Until a better source is identified or the world begins to run short of cedar, the trend is likely to continue.

Choosing the Right Furniture for Your Deck

Posted by admin 27 September, 2007 (0) Comment

After a long and arduous process, you’ve completed construction on your deck and now you’re faced with the task of furnishing and decorating the area. You’re tired and not thrilled with the thought of spending a long time shopping for patio sets, and you would rather have some suggestions thrown at you for what sort of outdoor furniture would best grace the area.

Depending on how adamant you are about expressing yourself, there are a number of options from among which you can choose. How creative do you want to be? You could settle for something simple, like wicker outdoor furniture, and just buy a typical set of chairs and table, perhaps with an umbrella to shade you from the sun. However, after all the work you’ve done to create such a unique place to relax, it would be a shame not to continue the theme with something more individual. Adirondack chairs are easy to find and, while not exactly unique, add a certain style to your deck. You can also choose different colors that will make them less uniform. You can also get special chairs that are less common, such as dual seats or glider Adirondacks. There are even recliners that can be used for laying out and tanning.

You can also choose some outdoor deck furniture that is less common, consider something like chair hammocks, which used to be quite popular in the 1970’s and 1980’s but not frequently seen as part of a more modern style. This makes them interesting and unique while offering a great deal of comfort at the same time. Best of all, you don’t need as much space or any trees to hang these from as you would with a regular hammock. Glider rocking chairs are also great choices for something less ordinary to grace your deck.

If you are looking for something classy that shows your knowledge of wood products and your ability to afford imported items, teak furniture is the way to go. In fact, if you’ve built your deck with teak, it’s almost a given that this is the right design for you. Durable, weatherproof, and long-lasting, this hard wood is typically imported from Southeast Asia and has become popular for outdoor use, though the price can be somewhat prohibitive. Something slightly less costly that will still be impressive is aspen log furniture, not something commonly seen in decorating patios or decks but beautiful in color and style.

As you furnish your deck, don’t forget the lawn and garden décor that is going to dress it up. Small statues and other accent pieces are great, and decorative bird feeders make your deck complete, turning it into a home for you and your feathered friends. It’s the little things that bring together the entire design, deck and furnishings.

Cedar vs Teak – Which Wood Lasts Longer?

Posted by admin 27 September, 2007 (0) Comment

When choosing furniture, whether for your garden, patio, or inside your home, it is probably quite important to you that it be of high quality that will last a long time. In terms of patio furniture, you’ve heard the good reports of both cedar and teak and are curious as to which will last longer so that you can make the appropriate choice for your décor. Because both are mostly weather resistant, either material is a great buy, but depending on your use, you may prefer one over the other.

Both types of wood produce oils that help to protect them from the elements, even if they are not treated with varnish or oil. That means less work on your behalf to seal them against the weather as opposed to other kinds of wood. Cedar patio furniture will also have an aroma, which comes from the secreted oils. Most people find the smell pleasant when wafted on the breeze outside, and it also repels moths and certain other insects. While teak furniture also includes the natural oils, there is no scent connected with it and no natural insect repellant properties.

Cedar is a naturally hard wood that is readily available and actually abundant within the United States, whereas teak is natural to a more Southern Pacific tropical environment, growing mainly in Southeast Asia. That means manufacture of teak garden furniture requires importing the raw materials or even importing finished products, making it more costly. However, the wood is virtually indestructible, used for such tasks as building boat docks or ship decks, as well as flooring in many cases.

Cedar furniture is also a hard wood product but more common because it can survive in almost any climate (barring outrageously cold temperatures of -40 degrees). Therefore, it grows in abundance and can be used with less concern, whereas only one species of teak is not endangered.

Of course, the type of furniture you are looking at can weigh heavily on your choices as well. For example, wooden picnic tables, which are usually inexpensive and not held to the highest of standards in their use and only being functional, would most likely not be made out of teak. However, outdoor bar furniture, built to impress and last a long time, could be out of either material but will often be teak because it is so durable. When it comes to wooden rocking chairs, you may find either material because porch rocking chairs are more a matter of taste than anything.

Part of how long your furniture lasts depends on your use, abuse, and maintenance, so between cedar and teak, you’ll find varying opinions. For different items, one may be better than the other, but they are both highly durable with low maintenance and a great, graceful appearance.

Cedar vs. Teak – Which One is Better for Your Outdoor Furniture Needs?

Posted by admin 27 September, 2007 (0) Comment

Will it be teak, or will it be cedar that you purchase to decorate your patio? In answering a question put so plainly, one has to look at the properties of the wood, as well as your intentions as the owner of such outdoor furniture and your ability and desire to take care of it. What sort of maintenance do you have the time and patience to afford? Both materials – cedar and teak – are sturdy woods often used when water-resistant materials are needed. However, each have their own properties that make them better for certain users.

Teak furniture is very common because of the wood’s weather resistant properties. It is a very durable wood and often used for construction of important structures such as boat docks and flooring. However, teak garden furniture also requires frequent care, as it can easily build mold and mildew in wet and damp conditions. You’ll need to wash your furniture frequently to be certain that this doesn’t become unmanageable, and you’ll want to make sure that no insects begin to delve into it or moths or termites decide to eat it.

On the other hand, cedar patio furniture requires another sort of maintenance. While less likely to mold and mildew and not attracting moths and other insects (thus its popularity for use in constructing hope chests and closets, as well as all furnishings on boats), the wood survives best with a good annual sanding. This is best completed when you bring the cedar furniture out for spring and intend to use it through the warm season. You may also choose to do this briefly before putting it away for the summer, just to scrub away the weather, dirt, dust, and other elements that have crept in over the summer.

Depending on the style of furniture you prefer, you may choose a particular type of wood. For example, teak has an older, more worn look to it and would provide a good material for rustic wood furniture. However, cedar tends to remain lighter and fresher in color and wear and would create a better contemporary set of furniture for your patio. It would not look good in rustic style. Teak would also provide a nice appearance for cottage style or contemporary design.

Because the wood type is more plentiful in the United States, outdoor cedar furniture has always tended to be more popular. However, teak is being imported more and more often for various uses, including patio furniture, and its natural oils that protect it from the weather have made it a highly popular material for patio and garden use. While neither is better in general for outdoor use, one may be better suited to your needs and taste. That, however, is a personal opinion.

Basic Tips for Wooden Patio Furniture Care

Posted by admin 27 September, 2007 (0) Comment

If you’ve found it difficult to talk yourself into buying that gorgeous teak furniture for your patio because you aren’t sure that you know how to properly care for it, you can feel free to make that purchase. Caring for wood patio furniture is not as difficult as you may think and requires mostly an annual once-over to assure that it is still in good shape.

First of all, just as if you were building a deck or putting up a fence, the most important aspect to protecting your wood furniture is to seal it. This maintains it and makes sure that water absorbsion doesn’t cause swelling of the wood or disfigurement of the furniture. This can be in the form of a simple sealant, a stain, or a sealing paint that is used to color the furniture.

If you start with unfinished wood furniture, you’ll definitely want to take the proper precautions because this will be particularly susceptible to the elements. Once the wood is finished, coated, sealed, or painted, it’s time to think about the maintenance of the furniture. Probably the most important piece of equipment in the care and maintenance of your wood is sandpaper. This simple tool can be used once a year to touch up any spot on the wood that seems to have been damaged or even slightly affected by the weather. This is an important step in the spring, when you first start to plant your garden and spend time outdoors, preparing for the outdoor season.

With cedar patio furniture, as well as other wood furniture, you’ll want to consider storing your items when not in use. Especially during the winter, your patio sets are in danger from the elements, even though they may be sealed. It is simply safer to store your wood until the time rolls back around to enjoy the spring weather and barbecues on your patio. You’ll want to reseal your wood every three to five years, depending on where you live and how harsh the hot and cold weather gets.

Log furniture is especially important to take care of, since it is usually more natural and unprocessed, meaning that it is truly impossible to really seal the wood against the weather. Here, you’ll probably want to use a tarp or other canopy to cover the furniture when not in use, adding an extra protectorate in case of rain, snow, or other inclement weather.

While these processes are more in-depth than those required to take care of wicker or metal furniture, they are still simple and can be completed quickly. With such simplicity, there is no reason to hold off on something you’ve always wanted. Go and get that wood furniture for your patio and start enjoying your own yard.

Basic Tips for Metal Patio Furniture Care

Posted by admin 27 September, 2007 (0) Comment

Have you noticed that a number of people who have lawn furniture seem to have an issue keeping that furniture fresh and looking well cared for? Are you thinking of getting some metal patio furniture but are afraid that, after a few months of sitting in the weather, it will be rusted and ugly? Don’t worry; there are plenty of ways to care for your outdoor furniture to keep it neat and clean, an outward showing of your inward cleanliness and organization.

If you are going to have a metal patio set, you’ll probably want to have some sort of patio covering, whether a natural overhang from your house or a pop-up canopy. This will help to protect your furniture from the elements, though some rain, dust, dirt, and snow will still get under your shading. Keep in mind, too, that if your metal furniture is painted, lack of protection from the sun will cause fading of the color, so a covering is highly recommended. You’ll also be more comfortable out of the sun as you relax around your patio dining sets yourself, and the metal furniture won’t be hot to the touch when you go out. If you don’t have a covering, you could leave it out, but it would be better if you put the furniture away when not in use.

Another thing you’ll need for the proper care of metal home and garden furniture is tarnish remover. Because you cannot protect your furniture from the elements entirely, you will notice that there are small marks of tarnish and rust that appear every now and then. When this occurs, you’ll want to use the tarnish remover to renew the area. You can follow with touch up paint, if necessary.

In order to avoid these circumstances, especially for specialty pieces like glider rocking chairs that can be damaged in terms of functionality by rust, you may also want to dry off the pieces after a hard rain. Of course, it goes without saying that you should periodically clean your outdoor furniture to remove dust and dirt as well.

If you have outdoor hammocks, you have a double job to do to care for it; you’ll need to take care of the metal frame that holds the hammock, cleaning it and removing any rust or tarnish. At the same time, you’ll need to empty any water and dirt from the hammock itself. Be sure to read the directions on actually washing the canvas or other hammock material as well.

Your metal furniture doesn’t have to look like it’s been sitting on your patio unused and uncared for over the years. Instead, you can take the necessary steps and precautions that will keep your furniture clean and comfortable for your use and for display.

Assembling Your New Outdoor Furniture

Posted by admin 27 September, 2007 (0) Comment

Have you just recently gone shopping and purchased new furniture and accessories for your patio and garden? If not, you may be putting it off so you don’t have to do the work of assembling the pieces. If so, you may not yet have taken up the task of putting those pieces together. In fact, you may be reluctant to start assembly on the pieces, wondering if you’ll get it right or if it will just be one big hassle. Depending on the type of furniture you’ve purchased, assembling the outdoor décor is typically not very difficult and can be done in a rather short session.

Wicker is usually preassembled, and metal requires little if any work to attach a few pieces here and there. Wrought iron comes similarly set up. In fact, under normal circumstances, outdoor wood furniture is the only type where any real assembly is required. Here, you have heavy pieces that don’t fold down for carrying from one place to another, and just boxing it requires that it be broken down for assembly by the purchaser.

Most patio furniture comes with clear directions for assembling included, in multiple languages. It is essential for the use of the furniture that you carefully follow these directions because misplacing a single piece of a chair or table can be detrimental to the design and durability. Imagine sitting down on a chair and it collapsing beneath you! Or on 4th of July, the first time you’ve really loaded down your wood picnic tables, one side of the table gives and everything slides to the ground. Obviously, following instructions for proper assembly is necessary, even for the most confident and experienced individual.

When you get ready to assemble lawn and garden furniture, you may want to begin in the area where you plan to install heavy pieces rather than trying to move them around once put together. In other words, if you are going to assemble a heavy table, you may want to do so in the spot where that table will take up permanent residence. On the other hand, with small and delicate pieces, you may want to keep the parts sheltered and move them into place after they are assembled, especially if there are a large number of tiny parts that could easily be lost outdoors.

Fear of assembling patio sets shouldn’t keep you from owning a set you love. You can easily put together a set, even if you aren’t a do-it-yourselfer. Few things are as easy to install and as pleasant to enjoy once the work is complete. And if you are still nervous, enlist the help of a friend or hire an installation service. You deserve to have the furniture you want!

Adding the Perfect Additions to Your Outdoor Patio

Posted by admin 27 September, 2007 (0) Comment

What is it you see when you look out at your lawn and garden? Is it what you always dreamed of, or is something missing? If you’re missing something, what do you envision as the perfectly decorated garden? You have a nice patio from which to view the area, but you honestly don’t know what to do to make it homely. Of course, you can go to the store and find all manner of lawn and garden décor in every style, material, and color imaginable, but you aren’t sure what you are looking for, and shopping without direction can be frustrating.

Again, envision your dream garden and lawn, and visualize the furniture upon which you wish to be perched as you admire the handiwork in your yard. Is it made of wrought iron, or is it simple wicker chairs? Are there tables or just a rocker? Maybe you’re seated on some kind of wooden chairs. Whatever the material, take it to heart as you go shopping for new patio furniture. If you can’t seem to keep the vision in your mind, sometimes drawing it out can help. Having an actual layout and design can be just as important and the materials used to create it.

Aside from the material, you’ll want to be certain of the style in which you are going to be decorating your patio. If the furniture in your vision is made of wrought iron, you won’t want to pursue rustic patio décor but something more modern in style, though still simplistic. The look of wrought iron will work best with very basic, casual design. Wood and wicker are quite versatile, so you can opt for decorations for your patio tables in contemporary, classic, cottage, and any other style.

Other things you may want to consider for decorating your patio are birdbaths, bird feeders, and other attractions for creatures of the wild. Perhaps garden statues are key to your design – gnomes, toadstools, and other small sculptures that turn your plain lawn or garden into a virtual fairyland. Don’t purchase items because they are in style or on sale; purchase them because they make you happy, and you want to have them in your collection.

As you shop patio sets, keep in mind whatever budget you have set for yourself and don’t forget that your expenditures should include more than just the furniture – you’ll want other décor as well, including pots for patio plants and other interesting items. Save some cash for these, since you don’t want your furniture to be bare and stand alone.

Above all, be true to your own desires. Don’t let cost or stylistic intentions thwart you from the pieces that would make you most comfortable and content in your own yard. You’ll be happier once you’ve seen your vision come to life.
